How to Dress for Fall 4 Ways

How do you make the season’s hottest trends work for you? That’s the question we posed to four amazing women from the Duluth Moms Blog, a group of Duluth moms passionate about the Duluth community, motherhood, and of course looking and feeling amazing along the way. Ready to see how our four blog mommas made maurices fall fashions their own? (Spoiler alert — they look a-ma-zing!) You’ll also love the amazing photos by Along and Inland Sea.

“As a working mom of three, I need to be able to step out the door in something that can multitask as well as I can.”

Autumn is here and so is the return to busy schedules. From morning meetings to dance class drop-offs, as a working mom of three I need to be able to step out the door in something that can multitask as well as I can. I love a jacket that works as a boardroom blazer in the am and a cozy, casual layer on the soccer sidelines come pm. And even though the days are getting darker, that doesn’t mean my wardrobe has to! Clothes that match the autumn landscape remind me to pause in my busy day and breathe in the beauty of the season. Fall is my time to reset and recharge — a good cup of coffee starts this mom off right. And like my favorite seasonal latte, skinny-fit pants in fall colors have the right spice for day or night. I pair them with must-have fall booties that give me just enough heel to dress up my day but not enough to stop me from joining in on one last dance with my little ballerina. I try to keep things fun and flexible as much as I can with a busy calendar and it’s great when my wardrobe can do the same!

“When we’re making memories, it’s important that I feel relaxed enough to chase after my tiny crew in confidence, comfort, and style.”

Autumn is all nostalgia for me. Growing up, my family had a yearly tradition of picnicking on the beach followed by picking bushels of apples at a Bayfield, Wisconsin orchard. All these years later, I’m still making that same drive under the crisp, fire-colored falling leaves — just now with my husband by my side and our own three kids in tow. After giving birth to our third child this summer, it’s a must for my closet to have nursing friendly options. A maxi wrap allows me the comfort I desire as my body transitions postpartum and also allows for easy access to nurse while we are out and about adventuring. Pairing it with a chunky cardigan and booties makes me feel put together without much fuss. When we’re making memories, it’s important that I feel relaxed enough to chase after my tiny crew in confidence, comfort, and style.

“In this stage of motherhood, being a fitness instructor and on-the-go mom, I’m practically living in leggings.”

It’s that time of year again where I can pull out my pumpkin spice and everything nice! The leaves changing color alone makes me want to do my happy dance. Don’t get me wrong — I love the cooler air, the scented candles and the bonfires, but the hiking in this season is what really gets my family and I going. One of my favorite fall activities is wandering through the woods, pretending we have no agenda and getting lost in time. In this stage of motherhood, being a fitness instructor and on-the-go mom, I’m practically living in leggings. I like to wear leggings and sweaters that have style as opposed to looking like I just rolled out of bed. An active legging with fun detailing like a side zipper, plus a textured pullover sweater, is my go-to. I can workout, look cute, and hike later with the family, all without needing an outfit change. A cute bomber jacket can instantly dress up my outfit up while providing me with the layers I love! And I adore sneakers that are comfy enough to hike and chase my kids in while maintaining something that is still very important to me: being fashionable and trendy.

“Jeggings are a staple in my wardrobe — they’re so easy to move in when I’m running around after my twin two-year-olds!”

Fall is just about my favorite time of year! The summer madness is over, everyone gets back into their routines, and the weather is perfect. There’s so much fun stuff going on every weekend, from farmers markets and festivals to corn mazes and pumpkin patches. Our favorite thing to do is be outside enjoying the season. Now that my girls are getting old enough, it’s so fun to see them enjoying the same traditions I had growing up — and start some of our own! After the pumpkin patch this year, we painted and decorated our pumpkins (a little more 2-year-old friendly than carving them!). I think my favorite thing about fall dressing is the layers. I love the chill in the air when I wake up in the morning, so a throw-on-and-go jacket is the perfect start to my day. As the sun warms up, I love an easy breezy tee with detailing that gives it just a little bit more style. Jeggings are a staple in my wardrobe — they’re so easy to move in when I’m running around after my twin two-year-olds! The hardest part of fall dressing for me is changing out my shoe wardrobe. I am a total sandals girl so when the temperature starts to dip it’s always a struggle for me to find something that’s just as easy but also still looks pulled together. Enter booties! Comfortable and easy to run around in yet they are so polished and make me feel totally put together when I have them on.
