When it comes to certain seasons, there’s no denying that we get a little hung up on certain hues. Especially, when mustard, burgundy and olive tones are involved. The only thing we’re loving more than these must-have hues, is how our guest blogger, Amy, from Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins is wearing them this season.
Whether it’s fashion or home décor, Amy loves looking to her surroundings for inspiration and bringing it full circle with a pop of color (or two). Just have a look at her beautifully tinted Instagram feed. Pretty sure you’ll be insta-falling too…
If you follow me on Instagram, you know the arrival of fall is something I’ve been looking forward to for weeks now. It was such a hot summer in North Carolina that I’m welcoming even high 70’s with big sweaters and cozy knits. It has taken me two years to adjust to North Carolina’s late fall and I have to admit, I always miss Ohio this time of year because the trees there are just stunning.
Luckily, I’ve learned to embrace the beauty everywhere and I have to admit, when it’s not snowing in March, I am very thankful for North Carolina weather. What I’ve learned to do is just adjust to my still sort-of-new surroundings of the East Coast. So when the trees don’t change like I want them too, I embrace those colors in my wardrobe instead. I’m typically drawn toward neutrals, but fall always pulls me toward those deep jewel tone colors, as well as some of my favorite fall colors this season: mustard, burgundy, and olive.
One of the main ways I make fall work for me when it’s still 80 degrees in October, is by wearing fabrics that feel “fallish” while still allowing me to breathe in them. This mustard dress is great because it’s easy to layer over and the ribbed fabric detailing makes it feel like a knit even when it’s still lightweight. Plus, I love the belt that comes with it. Yes to a cinched waist always.
Another struggle that I feel people have this time of year is with color itself. A lot of people think they can’t wear certain colors, but I have to disagree. You can wear anything you want depending on what you pair it with. I love a monochromatic look of all one color to really draw attention to the outfit as a whole instead of individual pieces. This olive cocoon sweater is seriously a dream and I know I’ll be wearing it throughout fall and come winter. Anything oversized this time of year is a yes in my opinion and I love it paired with a simple button-up that’s also amazingly versatile. Don’t forget, your hues don’t have to match perfectly…if they are a shade or two off, it creates visual interest.
Lastly, you can always take one of your “hard to wear” colors and pair it with a neutral like I’ve done with the amazing faux suede jacket. When all else fails, pair it back with black! I love the contrast it makes and honestly, a great jacket is essential for every fall wardrobe. So why not get it in an amazing color you can wear throughout the next few seasons?
