Here comes the long weekend! You’ve got the what, when and where figured out — but what will you wear?! Packing for a short trip can be even harder than packing for a long one. And the last thing you need is a bunch of clothes you don’t want weighing you down in more ways than one. Don’t stress! Whether you’re packing for the plane or a day at the lake, we’ve got a weekend getaway checklist you can count on.
TEE UP LONG WEEKENDS WITH GO-TO PAIRINGS
Summer getaways are relaxing. Packing, not so much. Start with the easiest pieces to squeeze into a suitcase and wear: tees. Soft, versatile and oh-so-foldable (rolling is also a great way to prevent wrinkles), tees will be your mainstay this weekend. Plan to bring three casual tees. If you’re headed to the beach, or just wish you were, take a look at our tropical print tank or tee. Graphic tees are also a great way to express your personality — you’re on vacation, after all! And since Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner, don’t forget to pack something patriotic to wear come Monday like our stars and stripes tee or cinched side floral flag tee. Pair any of these easy styles with the ultimate weekend getaway: denim cut-off shorts. Whether you prefer a high-rise deconstructed style or dark-wash bermudas, we’ve got you covered
Planning to go out to dinner or catch a concert under the stars? We recommend you pack one or two sophisticated tees for night — like a cold shoulder style to show off your sun-kissed shoulders or go for a strappy neckline or twist hem. Wear these attention-getting tees with super-flattering DenimFlex cropped destructed skinny capris or a prairie maxi skirt (can’t you just see yourself barefoot at the lake cabin, wind blowing in your hair, skirt twirling around your ankles?! We can!).
A DRESS IS ALWAYS A YES FOR THE LONG WEEKEND
Speaking of twirling, dresses are the easiest pieces to transition from day to night. A striped t-shirt dress paired with strappy sandals and a graphic tote makes a cute and comfy outfit for sightseeing or shopping. Switch your sandals out for tall wedges and add a vintage denim jacket perfect when the temp drops or AC is cranked up), and you’re ready for a sunset BBQ or fish fry. Did you have something a little dressier in mind? Our plus-size off-the-shoulder ruffle dress or solid maxi dress paired with a long necklace goes from AM to PM as easily as you do (remember, you’re also packing for pictures!). Don’t forget to include a small crossbody bag or wristlet wallet big enough for your phone, lipstick and cards.
DON’T FORGET TO PACK LAYERS AND CROPS
OK, so let’s get real for a minute. You can be the best packer in the world and still forget one thing: the weather forecast changes. We suggest bringing a fun patterned kimono and maybe a light sweatshirt (if you’re flying, an extra layer will definitely come in handy). Memorial Day is the official beginning of summer, but it may not always feel like summer yet. Throw in a pair of jean crops just to be safe.
FINISH THE LOOK WITH SANDALS & SHADES
And now comes the hardest decision of all: which shoes to pack. First, imagine your daytime activities: hanging at the pool or lake in comfy sandals or watching a parade in denim star sandals. Your nighttime activities might include catching lightning bugs with the kids in canvas slip-ons catching yourself mid-kiss with your significant other in block-heel sandals. Now, you need to put a few pairs back (we know, we know!). After all, you’ll need room in your suitcase for souvenirs. If you want to sneak in an extra pair, pick a super-flat style like our frayed jute sandal – they should slide into the zippered pocket on the front of your suitcase no problem.
