She took a break from her own award-winning website to create a recipe for YOUR next summer soiree. So…slice that melon, pinch that basil, and sprinkle teensy flower petals into your prettiest glasses. Kristin taught HERSELF how to be the belle of beautiful bartending, so YOU CAN DO IT, too!

Hello Friends! I’m Kristin, of Dine X Design, and I’m so excited to be sharing a couple of drink recipes with you as we kick off into summer. Let’s celebrate with colorful fizzy cocktails (that can both be served as mocktails or doctored up with your favorite spirit) perfect for cooling down all those upcoming warm weather get togethers! Be it a backyard BBQ or just having a few of the girls over to catch up over brunch, there’s nothing more fun than entertaining those you love…but the secret to making it less stress and more enjoyable is by doing as much as possible in advance. Big batch cocktails are going to be your hostess secret weapon this season – especially this bubbly watermelon basil punch and blackberry ginger spiked with bourbon, both perfectly easy to prep in advance. On the day of your bash, set up a vibrant self-serve drink station with these drinks so guests can build their own concoctions while you spend more time enjoying everyone’s company…which is why you’re throwing a party in the first place, right!? But the fun doesn’t stop with these glasses filled with flashy effervescents – let’s make them feel extra special with gorgeous garnishes. Just like your favorite statement accessory, it’s just as important to dress up your cocktail! Whether you decide on a float of edible blooms or a pretty pick of seasonal fruit – these summer sips are going to have you serving up some serious style this summer! Watermelon Basil Fizz Punch (Non-Alcoholic)

Ingredients

  • 1 watermelon
  • 2 cups cold water
  • ⅓ cup basil infused simple syrup
  • Sparkling water or tonic water

Basil syrup ingredients

  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 heaping tablespoon fresh chopped basil

Basil syrup instructions

In a sauce pan bring water and sugar to a boil and let sugar dissolve. Remove from heat and add fresh basil, let infuse for 15 minutes. Strain syrup with a fine mesh into a sealed container and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.

Punch instructions

Cut watermelon into small chunks and remove the rind, blend in a food processor with water until smooth. Strain mixture with a fine mesh into your punch bowl and stir in basil syrup. Serve in a small tumbler topped with sparkling tonic water. Garnish with a melon wheel and basil blooms. *You can make this drink a cocktail by adding a splash of tequila or vodka!

Garnishes

Using a small ring mold, carefully press into ½ in watermelon slices to create a melon wheel. Stick bamboo cocktail pick through the center of the wheel and balance on top of your glass. Dress with basil leaves and blooms for an extra sassy looking sip.

Blackberry Ginger Fizz Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 1oz bourbon*
  • 1oz blackberry shrub
  • Float of ginger beer
  • Sparkling water or tonic water

Blackberry thyme shrub

  • 1 cup black berries
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ¾ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 5 fresh thyme sprigs

Shrub instructions

Make the shrub up to one week ahead of time. Add blackberries and sugar into a bowl and gently muddle. Cover and place in the refrigerator overnight. Combine vinegar with thyme sprigs and let infuse overnight covered on the countertop. Strain blackberry mixture into a container using a fine mesh strain, using a spoon to press and release as much juice as possible. Remove thyme sprigs and add vinegar infusion to the berry mixture. Transfer this mix to a bottle with lid and keep sealed for one week, each day gently shake the mixture. Your shrub should be ready to enjoy within one week and can last up to 3 weeks if refrigerated in a sealed container.

Cocktail instructions

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add bourbon and shrub, shake well and pour into a coupe. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a frozen berry pick and edible blooms. *Not into bourbon?! No problem – add this blackberry shrub to either vodka or gin with a float of tonic water! It can even be enjoyed simply over your favorite sparkling water and ice.

Garnishes

Berries on a cocktail pick are always divine…but try throwing them into the freezer for 10-15 minutes before serving will create a beautiful frost a-top your garnish, making it look even more beautiful than before. Dress with edible flower petals and you’ve got one colorful reason to cheers!
