WHO’S YOUR SHERO?

We’re inspired and empowered by women who put others first today and every day. Whether it’s a teacher, a mom of two or Roslyn Jaffe, the founder of our own sister company, dressbarn, we believe every woman deserves to look and feel great, and should be celebrated for the everyday #shero that she is.

To bring this to life, our home office is partnering with the Community Action Duluth to host ten women for a fulfilling morning of personal and professional development, donating 20% off sample sale proceeds to local community organizations that support women, and of course recognizing all of the amazing contributions and service of everyday sheroes we are lucky to know, admire, and support right here in our Duluth home office. Starting with the four inspiring ladies below…

WHO’S YOUR PERSONAL SHERO & WHY?

“My MOTHER!  She moved to this country when she was only 18, learned English, became a US citizen and raised 4 successful, head-strong daughters. She faced so much adversity throughout her life, but kept on going with her head held high. I’m proud to be her daughter and hope that I’m half the woman that she is!”

WHAT DRIVES YOU TO SELFLESSLY SERVE OTHERS?

“I’ve always believed that by practicing kindness, compassion and serving others you are sharing who you are and also gaining a deeper understanding of what truly matters in life. We may not always have things or money to offer people, but we always have our time or personal gifts to share. Serving others is a way for me to express gratitude and shift my mindset from ‘me’ to ‘we’.”

THINK BACK…WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE IN GRADE SCHOOL?

“I believe my mom still has a picture of me standing in my 1st grade class with a sign that says ‘I want to be a NURSE!'”

WHO’S YOUR PERSONAL SHERO & WHY?

This is an easy one – my mom is my personal shero. She’s a wife, mom, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, cancer survivor, cheerleader, listener, advisor and so many other things all wrapped up into one amazing human. She loves deeply, gives selflessly, and inspires me to be that person for other people.”

EVERY SHERO HAS A SUPERPOWER…WHAT’S YOURS?

“I’m a logistical wonder woman! My husband and I both have full time careers and 3 young kids at home that are involved in all kinds of activities. In partnership with my husband and with the occasional tag team from friends, neighbors and technology, I’ve somehow figured out how to be several places at once! Sometimes at the end of a long workday and kids events, I do a little fist pump in the air with a silent “you owned this day” cheer.”

ANY ADVICE TO THE SHEROES THAT ARE ON THEIR OWN BRAVE JOURNEY?

“There is a sign in my daughters room that says “You are the author of your own story, make it a good one”. That really sums it up for me. Some of our chapters are filled with joy, some with heartache but the beauty is that we have the ability to close one chapter and start writing a new one however we choose.”

DIRECTOR OF BENEFITS / MOM OF 3 / #SHERO

WHERE DO YOU FIND THE COURAGE TO PUSH THROUGH CHALLENGING TIMES?

“Centering myself with yoga breathing is my go-to for daily life challenges. Bigger challenges require me to take it one day at a time, avoid the “what if” or “why us” game, accept help from others, and believe in miracles.”

IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

“I would tell my younger self: You’re doing a great job with work and family, don’t worry so much, have more confidence, you will look back on these days with great joy…”

Bri Waldoch

MANAGER OF SOURCING / VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR / #SHERO

WHO’S YOUR PERSONAL SHERO & WHY?

“My personal shero is definitely my mom. She is an incredibly compassionate, brave and smart woman. She leads a non-profit with a staff of 42; hikes, skis or does yoga every weekend; gardens and still finds time to be an amazing mom and grandma in between. She also recently completed treatment for breast cancer.  After enduring countless doctor appointments, surgery, chemo and radiation, she is now cancer free! Her positive attitude, strong spirit and drive to give back to those in need inspire me to be a better person.”

WHAT DRIVES YOU TO SEFLESSLY SERVE OTHERS?

“The desire to give back was instilled in me at a young age. My parents role modeled how to lead selfless lives and they exposed me to so many unique experiences. I recently became a mom and I want to share these same values with my daughter as she grows up. I truly believe that we all play a role in making the world a better place…we just have to find our own unique way of doing so.”

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR WOMEN TO SUPPORT & CHEER EACH OTHER ON AND HOW DOES THAT COME TO LIFE FOR YOU AT WORK?

“It’s so important to have a circle of women for support. I’m lucky enough to work with 90% women and feel incredibly grateful to be surrounded by such smart, hardworking ones  especially over the last year with the birth of my first child.  Transitioning back to work after maternity leave was challenging and I couldn’t have done it without the advice and support of so many moms who lived through the same experience.
